Personal Data of 2.5 Million People In California Compromised In 2012

State Attorney General Kamala Harris recently released a report saying 2.5 million California residents had their personal information compromised in 2012. Most data breaches came from retail businesses and financial institutions.

Personal data can be any number of things; your name and address, phone number, credit card information, social security number, drivers license, bank account. Any time you make a transaction or give out your personal information to a business there is a chance of a security breach. The more personal information someone is able to obtain from you, the greater chance of them being able to take it a step further and steal your indentity, credit cards, bank accounts, and social security numbers.
